In this tutorial we will be using the Pentagon preset shape and the blinds effect. Also note that the birdhouse screen shots will look different on the blinds effect. When I was resizing these to a smaller image the blinds effect is a little different on the smaller images. So if your blinds effect is not looking like the screen shot thats okay.

1. Open a new image 400x400 transparent. Set your foreground color to a light blue and background to a dark blue. Click on the preset shape and in the tool options select pentagon, filled and check antialias. |

2. Draw the Pentagon like this. |

3. Now go to image>effect>blinds and set width to 2, opacity 100, color black check horizontal and check light from left/top. |

4. Go to selection tool and in the tool options select circle, feather 0 and check antialias. Draw a circle in the center of the pentagon like this. |

5. Go to edit>cut and then deselect. |

6. Add new layer. Go to preset shape and in the tool options select circle, stroked, line width 5 and check antialias. Change your foreground color to the dark blue. Draw a circle on the outside of the other circle. Now go to image>effect> blinds. Leave the setting as is and click ok. |

7. Go to draw tool and in the tool options select single line, filled, width 5 and check antialias. Draw a line on the side of the pentagon on top. Go to image>effect>blinds and leave the settings as is except uncheck the horizontal. |

8. Copy the line, add new layer and paste line in new layer. Mirror the line and place on the opposite side of the pentagon at top. Your image should be looking like this. |

9. Merge layers visible, crop image to get rid of the excess space and your done. Now you can use other effects instead of the blind effect. Click here to see what I did with my bird houses. |
